Grateful for this simple goodness This will not to wage war When voices press for vengeance. Grateful for this beating human heart That loves, hurts, breaks and grows; Its gifts are sublime. Grateful for fellow travellers Who never cease to surprise In the depth of […]
Nerves burning like fire;A potency longing to emergeFrom inside the maelstrom:Restless and searching. Worries at the door of departure;A new step into the unknown:Out onto the land againTo sleep with the stars and the trees. Leaving the comfort of the home and the known—It never […]
Still, pure air.
A night vibrant with promise;
The expansiveness of the silence.
Music drifts from beneath doorways,
Barely audible, as if from some distant dream.
On the hilltop, the crowning glory awaits.
I clamber up the slope in anticipation,
Bathed in brilliant light.
Above me in the heavens,
Hangs a great white orb, wrapped in a golden halo.
Out of the depths of the night
A girl giggles, smitten in love.
Below us, the town, a sea of shimmering fire.
In the deep mystery of this unknowing stillness,
Anything seems possible.
My heart turns and yields to this taste of rapture,
Yet still I struggle to find peace
With one so close and yet so far away.
My heart could never be for you
Although I dearly longed for it to be so.
I plunge head first into this deepest and coolest of nights;
My senses tingle with the scents of promise.
Up ahead, you watch over me patiently,
A brilliant, naked flower, blooming unrequited in the thundering silence of this night.
Kneeling,Half an apple in each palm;One for you, one for me:This is how it works. Because I love youMy world comes alive.Because I love youYour beauty is everywhere. And I know:Your beauty is my beauty;Your boundlessness is my boundlessness;Your life is my life. These half-applesI […]
Green-gold beetle Stumbling, clambering Up and over and under and through. Progress on your journey is slow Yet you never abate. Nestled in this great landscape, You continue onwards; Doing what is to be done; Trusting that your steps are good; In time, you will […]
Basking in the midday sun.
Grey-blue leaves speak of the dusty hills of your homeland,
Held within a tawny cloak of hazy heat.
Out in the courtyard
The birds squawk and chirp and flutter.
Life flows busily about me
As my heart tumbles in turmoil,
Unable to find peace or rest.
Sit with me, olive tree:
Talk to me of your homeland;
I am homesick, too.
How I long to be home,
Safe and held, cared for and loved.
How I long to be home, olive tree.
The joyful immediacy of childhood recedes; The water level drops and the river runs dry. Anxieties of purpose and task cloud the mind: The simple beauty before the eyes No longer registers. The deep interior of the soul, a chasm beneath the feet, Where once […]
